Cleaning and Care of your Matiz
- Turtle Wax – www.turtlewax.com – Turtle Wax make a range of polishes and waxes for your car as well as wheel cleaner and carpet cleaner.
- ZX1 – www.team-zx1.co.uk – An oil additive which reduces friction in the engine. Has anybody used this – what have the results been?
- Wynns Bumper & Trim Shine – Foam Tyre Clean & Sheen – brings up tyres like new, just spray the tyre walls (not tread) with foam and leave for ten minutes. The foam dissipates leaving showroom clean tyres.
- Black plastic trim going grey? Gavin McCormick says, “Use black shoe polish on the black trim under the windscreen to get rid of spots of grey.”
Top Tip
- Be careful when adding screen wash because undiluted liquid splashes can dull your paint work.
Gap Insurance
If you are contemplating buying a new Matiz you should consider gap insurance. If you buy a new car and it is written off in an accident standard insurance cover will only give you the current market value of the car and therefore you will not be able to get a replacement car. Gap insurance ensures that the shortfall would be covered should a write off occur. If you pay over £6000 for a car then it is recommended that you buy gap insurance.

Problems with the Matiz
- Warning Light – If the ‘Check’ warning light comes on and does not disappear after switching off the engine and restarting take your car to a garage.
- Mysterious Cracked wind screens – The Matiz can get a cracked wind screen due to hard suspension on the front, possibly due to uneven road surfaces, directly up into the firewall and windscreen area – has anyone else experienced this?
- Antenna – Be careful unscrewing the antenna, the base screws into the antenna not the other way round as you would expect! You can’t buy the base or
the antenna separately from Daewoo….. they come together as a unit for a little under £20. Apparently, it’s a common thing for the antenna bolt to snap. Access can be gained to the antenna by removing the interior light cluster-unit - John Rapson has had a problem with his short circuiting motor, he passes on this advice: A problem that may happen after 30,000 miles is the wiring loom passing very close to the starter motor. Chafing causes a short circuit that can trip the fuse for the ECU. This is apparently a known problem, as Daewoo have given details to the AA for inclusion in the patrolman’s bible about checking this fuse as a matter of course. I would recommend that anyone with a 30,000 mile plus Matiz get Daewoo to inspect the wiring near the starter motor just to make sure you don’t end up stranded at the side of the road.
- Alloy wheels looking scruffy? Clark Peacock says: With reference to your comment about nasty wheels, mine too went scabby after about 18 months with the lacquer peeling off. I challenged Daewoo and it turns out there is a known problem with the wheels on the early cars. All four wheels were replaced under the warranty.
